Bird-Dog is a Matt Furie original. Furie is the cartoonist behind Boy's Club, the comic that gave the internet Pepe the Frog. It started in 2005 as a run of Myspace posts, went to print in 2006, and followed four slacker roommates — Pepe, Landwolf, Brett and Andy — through a haze of pizza, video games and very little ambition. Critics called it a stoner classic for the Tumblr generation.
Bird-Dog arrives late to the party. He's introduced in Boy's Club #4, the series' fourth and final issue, on a full "introducing:" splash page — beanie, shades, pizza-slice tee, a chain hanging out of his shorts, and a one-liner ready. He's a bird-dog hybrid, feathers and fur blended together, who delivers pizza and drifts through the house with a nonchalant, carefree attitude and a steady supply of dry one-liners.
He was the last new face Furie added to the Boy's Club house before the series ended in 2012 — the whole run was collected by Fantagraphics in 2016. Pepe became the most famous cartoon frog on earth. Bird-Dog stayed underground. Until now.
